2020 Policy Competition

“Politics happens in westminster, but the best ideas are often found outside, in the real world.”

— Darren Jones MP

the Labour Digital Policy COmpetition:

How can technology transform Britain? We want to hear the best ideas from around the country, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  • First, choose a technology based policy proposal that you think could make a positive difference as a part of the next Labour manifesto. Your idea could be about policy delivery (i.e, personalised education) or about regulation (i.e, competition powers).

  • Then, draft a proposal with a maximum of 500 words. If you wish, you can also create a short video, illustration, or presentation to accompany your policy pitch, although this is not required.

  • Your proposal will go through a first round of judging, which will select 5 finalists, who will have the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of expert judges at our virtual finale event.

  • The winner will receive a prize and all of the best proposals will be showcased by Labour Digital.

Get Creative with your Policy topic:

The advent of digital technologies has brought sweeping changes from the household to the workplace, and has raised endless questions for policy. For this policy challenge, we want to know what interests you, and what you think are the important questions, so choose an issue that you feel passionate about. We think the topics below are areas in which digital technologies have unrivalled transformative potential, and with this comes the need for governance that enables the greatest positive impact, while managing risks. That being said, you shouldn’t feel limited to these areas and we will consider any proposal as long as it is within the remit of government, and relates to digital or technology more broadly.

For Inspiration, watch our #LabourDigital2020 Discussion Series:

The coronavirus pandemic has shown the importance of digital technologies in connecting us virtually, when we cannot be together physically. It has also showed the potential of tech as an asset to the economy through enabling remote working, and to public services through digital health data and other initiatives, though these shifts towards technologies have also exposed dangers to equality and privacy, where tech is not deployed transparently and governed responsibly.

To dig into some of the most important tech issues that the coronavirus has exposed and provide inspiration about the most current policy issues, our #LabourDigital2020 Discussion Series brings together experts to engage in productive conversation, and answer pressing questions. You can watch these discussions live or catch up with previous sessions here.
